Equine Assisted Social Work Session

Ngara Bush & Life Learning offers sessions for neuro-diverse people, their families, those with disabilities and mental health challenges.

Our focus is the development of communication, life skills and cognition. Through movement and a joyful environment communication and learning becomes possible.

We serve a wide community of neuro-diverse and neuro-typical people who are looking for a unique approach to healing and learning.

We support people to find healing in our natural, pressure free and welcoming environment. Getting to know oneself, own talents, likes and dislikes and thinking about what this can mean for the future, as well as learning what is important to live a content life, is what we nourish and foster in our sessions.

Our natural environment with little sensory triggers and the lovely team, allows everyone to grow and develop without judgment, expectation or pressure. We give our clients and their families the time to learn life skills and whatever is important in their individual journey at their own pace and through laughter, fun and play. We aim to re-engage them with the natural environment and through trust and respect support emotional growth and development.

Even though our sessions are a therapeutic approach, we don’t call it therapy. The sessions are called playdates. With this we are aiming to sett a stress-free environment for children who have made the experience of many therapeutic contexts, in which they were suggested to be not right and needed fixing.

At Ngara Bush & Life Learning the fun is the centre of attention and learning and healing happen by stealth. We also involve the whole family to learn, communicate and grow together as individuals and as a unit.

Part of our team are our animals: horses, rabbits, guinea pics and dogs. Animals and their special abilities to make connection and their non-verbal communication helps to build a bridge over to the relationships and communication with family members and loved ones.

Our horses also provide a special kind of movement with incredible results for our clients ability to communicate, learn and retain information.

Horse Boy Method Workshop

The Horse Boy Method is a neuro-cognitive approach designed for autism, ADD, ADHD, depression, anxiety, PTSD, and other brain/nervous system related conditions that help repattern the brain and enable communication, learning and joy.

We work mainly outside as nature has very few sensory triggers. Our sensory work on horseback calms the nervous system and the rhythmic rocking of the hips while riding in the long reins or together in a long therapy saddle produces the antidote to the stress hormone cortisol, the feel-good hormone oxytocin.

We then play Perspective Taking and Rule Based Games which help to build the brain. Following we develop academic games adjusted to the child’s interests and obsessions and teach kinetically through treasure hunts and movement games.

Takhin Workshop

Takhin is a ground-based horse training intervention that teaches people with neuro-psychiatric conditions to rehabilitate, train and maintain horses for therapeutic programs.

-Lunging and long reining to build muscle, rhythm, and balance.

-In-hand work to build suppleness and trainability.

-Softening groundwork to create a horse that moves fluidly, feels physically and emotionally good, and who can therefore impart its own wellbeing to a client whether working in the saddle or on the ground.

Takhin makes the clients the trainers, it transforms the horses and deliver healing.

Movement Method Workshop

This 2 day workshop offers skills and tools too therapists, practitioners, teachers, and parents.

The Movement Method concept was founded by Rupert Isaacson. It optimises healing, learning, and teaching strategies, addressing neuro-diversity through neuro-science and movement.

Therapists, social workers, teachers and parents  are facing a multitude of challenges. Too little support, expectation of integration, and being told to address academic skills as well as behavioural and social-emotional challenges. This results in stress, burn out and mental health issues.

Movement Method shows the way to effective learning through stress reduction and positive mental health. We provide an easy to implement program that achieves better behavioural outcomes, improves emotional and mental health resilience and improves academic scores. It delivers this through integrating specific movement based activities that target both the learning receptors of the brain and the production of the communication hormone oxytocin. It delivers an integrated package of effective solutions based on neuro-science that addresses the root of the problem.

In a nutshell, we replace the stress hormone Cortisol with the happiness and communication hormone Oxytocin. Then we create what neuro scientists call BDNF (brain derived neuro trophic factor) which puts the brain in the optimal place for learning and cognition.
